Judge Strikes Down Pittsburgh Leave, Training Ordinances

A Pennsylvania judge in separate rulings struck down two Pittsburgh ordinances, concerning sick leave and safety training, saying they go against a home charter law that applies to the city (Pa. Rest. & Lodging Ass’n v. Pittsburgh, Pa. Ct. C.P., GD 15-016442, 12/21/15; Bldg. Owners and Managers Ass’n of Pittsburgh v. Pittsburgh, Pa. Ct. C.P., GD 15-013329, 12/17/15).

Judge Joseph M. James of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas ruled Pittsburgh’s Safe and Secure Building Act ordinance unenforceable Dec. 17, and its Paid Sick Days Ordinance unenforceable Dec. 21.
