JPMorgan Chase Customer’s Race Bias Claim Sent to Arbitration

A Black JPMorgan Chase customer will have to arbitrate her discrimination claims against the bank and its branch manager after a split federal appeals court found she’s bound by an arbitration agreement.

Jeanetta Vaughn’s claims must be arbitrated since they’re sufficiently linked to her deposit account, which contains an agreement with JP Morgan requiring arbitration for “any dispute relating in any way to your account or transactions,” US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit Judge Jerome A. Holmes said. The panel reversed a lower court’s denial of the bank’s motion to compel arbitration.
