John Deere Employee Killed in Accident During Strike, Union Says

A 56-year-old employee at the Milan John Deere Parts Distribution Plant in Moline, Illinois, was fatally struck in a traffic accident while walking to the picket line, United Automobile Workers said in an emailed statement.

  • Deere & Co. didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment
  • NOTE: Roughly 10,000 members of the union have been on strike against John Deere since Oct. 14 after failed salary negotiations
  • NOTE: Strike is UAW’s first labor action against the company in 35 years and shuts down operations at 11 factories in Illinois, Iowa and Kansas
