IT Workers in United States, Indian Firm Propose to Settle Wage Suit for $30 Million

A class of approximately 12,800 information technology workers from India who worked on nonimmigrant visas in the United States and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., an Indian firm, have agreed to an approximately $30 million settlement of the workers’ breach of contract and California statutory claims, according to court documents filed Feb. 21 (Vedachalam v. Tata Consultancy Servs. Ltd.).

If the proposed settlement is approved by Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the average anticipated recovery for each class member is approximately $1,600 from a $29.75 million total settlement fund, according ...
