IRS to Extend SECURE Act Retirement Plan Amendment Deadlines

Aug. 3, 2022, 7:17 PM UTC

The IRS issued a notice Wednesday that will extend the deadline for amending retirement plans and individual retirement arrangements under the 2019 SECURE Act (Pub.L. 116-94).

The SECURE Act sought to create new avenues for private-sector businesses to establish retirement plans and amended the rules to make it easier for workplace investors to save.

  • Non-governmental plans will have until Dec. 31, 2025, to make those amendments, according to an IRS notice that will be published in an Internal Revenue Bulletin on Aug. 22.
