Iranian Neuroscientist Gets Award Boost in Rockefeller Bias Suit

An Iranian-born neuroscientist who prevailed at trial on a discrimination claim against her former employer, Rockefeller University, was awarded interest on her back pay and emotional distress damages.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York adopted a magistrate judge’s recommendation and granted former research professor Effat S. Emamian’s motion in part Tuesday, adding $31,894.51 in prejudgment interest and additional postjudgment interest to the jury’s $450,000 verdict. The court also awarded attorneys’ fees totaling $960,570.00 and costs totaling $134,855.66, divided across five firms.
