Iowa Bill Would Allow Teenage Apprentices in Factories, Mines

An Iowa bill that would let teens work as apprentices in factories, mines, and warehouses is drawing the ire of advocates for child labor protections, while business backers say the measure is a work in progress aimed at updating an old law with reasonable standards.

The bill (SF 167), which received approval from a state Senate subcommittee Thursday, would revise the state’s restrictions on when, where, and how teenagers can work.
