International Students at U.S. Colleges Plunge Amid Pandemic (1)

International students attending U.S. universities plummeted in the last academic year mostly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, though early numbers show a partial rebound for the current semester.

The total fell 15% to 914,095 students in the 2020-‘21 academic year, the largest drop in more than seven decades, according to data released Monday by the Institute of International Education and the U.S. State Department. The number of new international students at universities plunged 46%.

The group also released a snapshot of enrollments for this fall based on a smaller data set, which shows a 4% increase from the previous year. ...
