International Motors Inks $150,000 Class Deal Over Smoker Charge

International Motors LLC will pay $150,000 to settle a former employee’s proposed class action claiming the truck maker mishandled a wellness program that charges tobacco-using workers an extra $600 per year for health coverage.

The agreement, announced Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, is expected to benefit about 734 people who paid a tobacco surcharge under the International Motors health plan between 2016 and 2025.
