Interim Head of DOL Agency Overseeing Jobless Aid Steps Down (1)

Suzi LeVine has resigned as acting head of the U.S. Labor Department agency charged with overseeing unemployment benefits and job training, citing an inability to relocate to Washington, D.C.

Lenita Jacobs-Simmons, a veteran career official at DOL’s Employment and Training Administration, is the agency’s new temporary leader, according to a letter to states published Monday.

The Biden administration tapped LeVine as ETA’s interim chief at the start of February, tasking her with repairing inadequacies in the federal-state unemployment insurance system that had been exposed during the pandemic and reinforcing the government’s commitment to registered apprenticeships.
