Immigration Raid Violated Latino Workers’ Rights, Lawsuit Says

An immigration raid at the Southeastern Provision meatpacking plant in Bean Station, Tenn., violated the constitutional rights of about 100 Latino workers, a class action filed Feb. 21 alleges.

Agents from two U.S. Department of Homeland Security agencies—Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations—used race as a proxy for immigration status in violation of the workers’ Fourth Amendment right to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures and their Fifth Amendment right to equal protection, the lawsuit says.
