A group of nonprofits that help immigrants apply for visa benefits have filed a lawsuit alleging a final rule raising visa fees violates U.S. law and was implemented by unlawfully appointed officials, including acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf.
The Immigrant Law Resource Center and seven other organizations claim in a complaint filed late Thursday at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that new visa fees for asylum seekers and increased fees for naturalization effectively will price out the low-income immigrants the organizations assist.
