Illinois Court Reporter Advances Deputy Sexual Harassment Suit

A former court reporter in Cook County, Ill., overcame two deputies’ motion to dismiss her suit saying they sexually harassed her for five years in violation of the equal protection clause, according to a Northern District of Illinois ruling.

Helen Miller worked at the Circuit Court of Cook County courthouse in Skokie between 2013 and when she was fired in April 2018. She says deputy Steve Valenza made sexually explicit comments to her about her body whenever he was nearby, remarked on her appearance, and told her in crude terms that he was going to have sex with her.
