IHOP Franchisees to Pay $1M to End Sexual Harassment Lawsuit (1)

Two companies operating IHOP restaurants in Illinois have tentatively agreed to pay more than $1 million to settle claims by the federal government and a group of workers that severe sexual harassment was tolerated at the two eateries.

The July 17 proposed settlement, which still requires court approval, continues the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s crackdown on workplace sexual harassment both before and after the rise of the #MeToo movement. It comes in a case alleging harassment at an International House of Pancakes in Glen Carbon, Ill., owned by 2098 Restaurant Group LLC and a separate restaurant.
