IHOP, Denny’s Top List of Full-Service Chains Accused of Wage Violations

DineEquity Inc.—owner of the IHOP and Applebee’s chains—and Denny’s top the list of large full-service restaurant chains that have been fined by the Department of Labor for wage and hour violations, based on a Bloomberg BNA analysis of DOL data.

The number of violations dwarf those of fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s or Subway that don’t employ waitstaff, as well as full-service restaurants like Darden Group that don’t operate 24-hours a day. Darden operates chains like Olive Garden.

The prevalence of violations at full-service outlets highlights an ongoing issue related to wage violations connected to tipped waitstaff.
