House Votes to Eliminate Deadline for Ratifying ERA

The U.S. House passes legislation that would get rid of a deadline for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution.

  • Vote on H.J. Res. 79 is 232-183
  • NOTE: On Jan. 27, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA after Democrats assumed the majority in both chambers of the state legislature
    • The deadline passed in 1982, though Nevada ratified the amendment in 2017, and Illinois approved it in 2018
