Regulations giving US House staffers the right to unionize kick in Monday, allowing workers who have been negotiating behind the scenes for months to move into a more public phase.

Staffers from eight offices will file petitions on Monday, according to the Members of the Congressional Workers Union, the primary group leading the drive for staffers. The offices, all Democrats, are Reps. Cori Bush (Mo.), Chuy Garcia (D-Ill.), Ro Khanna (Calif.), Andy Levin (Mich.), Ted Lieu (Calif.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), and Melanie Stansbury (N.M.).
