Democrats in Congress are urging the president to reverse his firing of two members of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which they say undercut the civil rights agency’s independence and bipartisanship.
The firings of Democratic Commissioners Charlotte Burrows and Jocelyn Samuels were unprecedented, the lawmakers said in a pair of new letters addressed to President Donald Trump. Burrows’ term was set to expire in July 2028 and Samuels in July 2026, and the Democrats said previous presidents from both parties have allowed commissioners to serve out their terms.
