House Republicans want to trim the US Labor Department’s budget by more than a quarter in fiscal year 2026, advancing President Donald Trump’s vision to eliminate parts of the agency and cut back enforcement spending.
The House Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding the DOL and the departments of Health and Human Services and Education voted 11 to 7 to advance a spending bill Tuesday. The legislation, which moves to consideration by the full committee, would provide the DOL with $9.6 billion for 2026, nearly $4 billion less than the $13.3 billion Congress allocated for the agency in 2025.
