House Pay Bias Bill Cleared for Floor Vote

The House is scheduled to vote on a Democrat-backed bill March 27 that’s intended to help erase the gender pay gap. The measure will likely draw a heated floor along party lines.

The House Rules Committee debated the process for floor consideration of the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7, S. 270) on March 25. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to require companies to show that pay disparities among workers doing the same job are based on “bona fide job-related factors” that are “consistent with business necessity.”
