House Passes Bill to Help Labor Enforcers Spot Human Trafficking

The US House of Representatives approved legislation that would assist the US Labor Department in detecting labor and sexual exploitation cases during workplace inspections.

Lawmakers voted 407-0 to pass the Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act (H.R. 443) on Monday, sending the bill to the Senate where it may receive swift consideration based on bipartisan support in the House.

Under the measure, the secretary of labor would be required to implement in-person or virtual training programs for DOL enforcers to detect potential human trafficking during routine inspections, and refer those cases to the Justice Department. The agency also ...
