House OKs Bill to Require Federal Workers To Pay 5 Percent More Toward Pensions

Federal executive branch employees would pay an additional 5 percent of salary toward their retirements, phased in over five years, under a measure (H.R. 5652) passed by the House May 10 on a 218-199 vote.

Under the Sequester Reconciliation Act, portions of which were approved on a 19-15 vote by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee April 26 (81 DLR A-1, 4/26/12), federal employees would contribute an additional 1.5 percent of salary in calendar year 2013, an additional 0.5 percent of salary in 2014, and an additional 1 percent of salary in 2015, 2016, and ...
