Home-Care Industry Wages Targeted in Early DOL Enforcement Focus

The U.S. Labor Department is zeroing in on home-care wage standards in one of the Biden administration’s first industry-specific enforcement initiatives.

The DOL’s Wage and Hour Division announced Tuesday the launch of an “education, outreach, and enforcement” initiative to ensure professional caregivers get minimum wage and overtime protections and aren’t misclassified as independent contractors. Although the agency didn’t describe the project as limited to the home-care setting, the DOL said it was aligning the kick-off with National Home Care and Hospice Month in November.
