HILL TAX BRIEF: House Returns, With Vote on Tax Bill in Sight

Everyone is watching to see whether the House can muster enough votes this week to pass bipartisan tax legislation that pairs business breaks with an expansion of the child tax credit.

House Ways and Means Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.), who brokered the deal with Senate Finance Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), has worked to sell the deal to his GOP colleagues. He’s been holding meetings with factions of his party, appearing on TV news shows, and putting out statements to tout the legislation’s business breaks and tamp down concerns over whether the CTC changes would reduce incentives for work.
