Hearst Units Beat Ex-Worker’s Bid to Revive Vaccine Bias Lawsuit

Two Hearst Corp. units reasonably relied on medical evidence when they mandated vaccination against Covid-19, dooming an ex-employee’s attempt to revive his religious discrimination case, a federal appeals court said.

The worker argued that Hearst didn’t provide enough evidence that the vaccine reduced virus transmission, so granting him a religious exemption wouldn’t have imposed an undue hardship. But the undisputed facts show the company “reasonably relied on objective medical evidence,” the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit said, upholding the district judge’s order granting Hearst summary judgment.
