Leader of Hospitality Workers’ Union Unite Here Steps Down (1)

Unite Here president D. Taylor has resigned after more than a decade leading the nation’s most prominent union of hotel and restaurant workers.

Taylor announced his resignation in a statement Monday, effective immediately. He’s replaced by Secretary-Treasurer Gwen Mills, who would have to seek election at the union’s convention in June to retain the post.

Elected in 2012, Taylor steered the union through the nadir of the Covid-19 pandemic when 98% percent of its membership was laid off. He presided over negotiations last year with some of the largest casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, winning pay raises and safeguards ...
