Suisan Co., a food distributor on the island of Hawaii, has agreed to pay $90,000 and provide other relief to resolve a race harassment lawsuit, according to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Wednesday.
A Black warehouse employee who was subjected to racist comments was suspended and then terminated after complaining to management about the comments, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the agency alleged in a lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of Hawaii.
