A union of mostly graduate students at Harvard University began a strike after failing to come to agreement with the university over issues including higher pay and membership requirements.

The students, which include teaching fellows and research assistants, began picketing on Tuesday morning after failing to come to an agreement with school leadership after almost two-dozen bargaining sessions.

The group, which is affiliated with the United Auto Workers — one of the largest and most influential labor groups in the US — is demanding base pay of $55,000 for all workers and for union fees to be mandated for eligible ...
