Haitians in US Get Extended Immigration Relief, Work Eligibility

The Biden administration is extending new removal protections and employment eligibility for more than 309,000 Haitians with temporary status in the US, the Department of Homeland Security announced Friday.

Temporary protected status allows foreign nationals facing threats of violence or instability in their home country to remain and work in the US. The new TPS designation will run from Aug. 4, 2024, to Feb. 3, 2026, according to a Federal Register notice set to be published July 1. Only individuals residing in the US since June 3 will be eligible.
