US businesses have submitted enough petitions to hit a statutory cap of 85,000 H-1B specialty occupation visas for fiscal year 2025, US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Monday.
USCIS held multiple random selections after overhauling the H-1B annual lottery system this spring. Workers could previously have their chances of selection boosted with registrations by multiple employers, but January regulations gave each individual beneficiary equal lottery odds for the first time.
The agency will continue to accepting petitions for H-1B workers exempt from the cap, who include those employed at higher education institutions or at nonprofits affiliated with colleges or universities.
