A former GrubHub Inc. food delivery driver who lost a trial alleging he’d been wrongly classified as an independent contractor inched closer toward another opportunity to make his case.
Former driver Raef Lawson lost in February following a bench trial on his claims under California law. Less than three months later, the state Supreme Court transformed the test for classifying a worker as a contractor or an employee under state law. It adopted a more worker-friendly test that makes it harder to tag workers with contractor status.
