Grifols Subsidiary Must Defend Religious Bias Suit Over Pronouns

Interstate Blood Bank Inc., part of Grifols SA, must face a religious bias lawsuit by a worker who was allegedly fired after refusing to use a transgender co-worker’s preferred pronouns.

Denise Haskins sufficiently alleged that Interstate could have provided a reasonable accommodation, the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan ruled Feb. 17.

The court cited a Sixth Circuit opinion that relies in part on a Supreme Court religious accommodation standard set to be re-evaluated on April 18. At least one other religious bias lawsuit has been stayed pending the Supreme Court’s decision.
