Governor Signs Montana Coronavirus Liability Shield Into Law

Lawsuits that blame businesses for Covid-19 injuries or deaths face higher legal hurdles in Montana, in the form of new civil liability limitations Gov. Greg Gianforte signed into law.

With Gianforte’s signing Wednesday of the measure, passed by the state legislature last week, Montana joins more than a dozen states that passed laws in 2020 broadly shielding businesses, nonprofits, and other entities from lawsuits brought by customers, workers, or the general public over Covid-19 exposure.
