House Republicans advanced legislation Wednesday to pare back pension benefits for federal employees and charge them higher premiums for retirement benefits. The moves are part of a sweeping domestic GOP policy package to enact trillions of dollars in tax and spending cuts.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee advanced the 20-page bill on a mostly party-line vote of 22-21 after Republicans rejected a swath of Democratic amendments.
