Republicans are pressing new leadership at the US Labor Department to crack down on fraud in the unemployment insurance system, an issue that they say persisted during the last administration despite increased calls for reform.
In a letter sent to Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, four Republicans urged the DOL to share more data, and implement changes for how it instructs states to respond to fraud and how it distributes resources to state unemployment insurance systems, citing a high rate of fraud in the program even after the pandemic.
