GM Fights Injured Worker’s Discovery Bid at Michigan High Court

The Michigan Supreme Court questioned attorneys for General Motors LLC and a worker who suffered “traumatic castration” on the job during oral argument Thursday in a case that could shift massive discovery burdens to employers.

The case involves a worker who was hit when a press in GM’s Flint, Mich. factory shot out a compressed steel storage block resembling “a twelve pound marital arts throwing star with jagged edges and sharp end points.” Regardless of which way the justices rule, the case will impact employment litigation in the US manufacturing heartland.
