GM China Unit Fails to Stop Fired Shanghai Manager’s Age Suit

GM (China) Investment Co. must continue defending a federal and state-law age bias suit by a fired Shanghai-based senior manager, a federal trial court in Michigan said.

Personal jurisdiction over GMCIC is appropriate in Michigan under the alter-ego theory, based on parent General Motors LLC’s contacts there, because of a showing that GM controls GMCIC, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan said Tuesday.

GMCIC can’t avoid Shawn Wang’s claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, Judge Linda V. Parker said. ...
