GM Backs Measure Opposed by Tesla to Tie EV Tax Bonus to Unions

General Motors Co. President Mark Reuss wants Congress to lift the cap on the number of tax credits carmakers can offer consumers who buy electric vehicles and supports a measure to provide bonuses for cars made by union workers.

Reuss told reporters Tuesday that Congress should eliminate the cap that now offers consumers a $7,500 tax credit but phases out after a manufacturer has sold 200,000 vehicles. Democrats have proposed adding an additional $4,500 bonus for electric cars made by union workers.
