Gig economy companies that classify workers as independent contractors should get closer scrutiny on whether they’re violating antitrust law, White House adviser Tim Wu said.
“Some of the contracts and relationships that may be set up to avoid classifying someone as an employee should be themselves carefully examined for legality under the antitrust laws, and that is a delicate thing,” Wu said Tuesday at a joint Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission workshop on promoting competition in labor markets.
