GE Appliances violated federal labor law by unilaterally giving some employees a raise without first negotiating with their union, the National Labor Relations Board said.
The NLRB in a Tuesday decision upheld a January 2023 ruling from Administrative Law Judge Kimberly Sorg-Graves which found that GE Appliances had illegally changed wages for certain less-senior employees.
Lawyers for the NLRB’s general counsel and the union alleged that GE Appliances purposefully excluded the most-senior workers from wage increases to weaken the union, because those workers were more likely to be dues-paying members.
