The IRS will keep all of its taxpayer assistance centers open through filing season, according to a person familiar with the situation.
The administration had initiated the termination of 128 IRS offices that host taxpayer assistance centers and five that include call sites as part of its efforts to shrink the federal government, according to a source familiar with the situation. The General Services Administration told the IRS in a letter that it will end “all soft-term leases” other than public-facing ones, which will be examined on a case-by-case basis.
