A three-judge appellate panel in Richmond, Va. seemed skeptical it has standing to allow two religious organizations to temporarily block a Maryland law barring those groups from hiring only workers who embrace their beliefs.
US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Judges Andrew Wynn, an Obama appointee, and A. Marvin Quattlebaum, a Trump appointee, pressed attorneys for the Seventh-day Adventist groups and the state during oral argument Tuesday to explain whether the case was ripe for a decision since the groups haven’t been cited for enforcement.
