A majority of workers at a soon-to-be opened Ford electric vehicle plant in Kentucky have formally expressed support for union recognition, the United Auto Workers said.
The facility, a joint venture between Ford and South Korea’s SK On, expected to start producing batteries next year, is the latest in a UAW $40 million campaign to bring EV workers under a more generous master agreement negotiated last year with Detroit automakers.
Starting wages for production workers are $21 an hour at the new battery plant, compared to $26.32 at Ford plants that make gas-powered cars.
