Florida businesses and health-care providers will be largely shielded from Covid-19 liability lawsuits under legislation signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The measure, SB 72, prevents a court from finding civil liability related to coronavirus damages, injury, or death unless the person suing can clear a set of unusually high legal hurdles—including some that could see judges dismiss many cases before they reach a jury. The liability protection covers most or all businesses, nonprofits, health-care providers, schools, government entities, and religious organizations.
