The Florida Department of Revenue and the Labor Department signed a memorandum of understanding Jan. 13 agreeing to share information and coordinate law enforcement to reduce the misclassification of employees as independent contractors or other nonemployee statuses, the DOL announced Jan. 13.
Independent contractors often are denied access to benefits and protections, such as family and medical leave, overtime pay, minimum wage and unemployment insurance, the DOL said.
