The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed two separate lawsuits against Florida companies Alto Construction Co. and J.A. Croson LLC for allegedly subjecting their employees to race discrimination in violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the agency said Friday.
A Black employee of Alto, a site development and asphalt paving company based in the Tampa area, allegedly was fired after objecting to an assault committed against him by a White division manager, the EEOC said. Black employees were also allegedly regularly subjected to harassment based on their race by management, according to the agency.
