Florida College Is Exempt From Labor Law, NLRB Judge Finds

A National Labor Relations Board judge ruled that a Florida university isn’t covered under federal labor law, teeing up the full board’s consideration of its standard for determining whether a college is religious and thus outside the agency’s jurisdiction.

NLRB Administrative Law Judge Ira Sandron ruled Thursday that Saint Leo University meets the board’s current standards for religious exemptions from the National Labor Relations Act. NLRB attorneys had asked Sandron to overturn the standard set by the Trump-era Bethany College case, but the judge said he was “bound by the board’s governing decision.”
