First Circuit Backs Professor’s Firing After Class LGBTQ+ Talks

A former tenured Salve Regina University Spanish professor failed to prove that her gender, race, sexual orientation, age, and religion played a role in her termination following classroom complaints about her assigned reading and discussions regarding LGBTQ+ rights, a federal appeals court said.

A US District Court for the District of Rhode Island judge properly dismissed Dr. Linda Crawford’s lawsuit because she didn’t establish a plausible claim of discrimination, hostile work environment, or retaliation stemming from her termination in 2022, a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit ruled Thursday.
