Fired EEOC Member’s Lawsuit Paused Until Supreme Court Rules

A federal judge halted litigation over former EEOC Democratic Commissioner Jocelyn Samuels’ dismissal pending a US Supreme Court ruling on presidential power to fire independent agency officials.

The justices’ consideration of President Donald Trump’s removal of Democratic Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter has the potential to resolve the administration’s argument that Trump could ax Samuels, Judge Tanya Chutkan said Friday.

“The court finds that the interest of judicial economy outweighs any prejudice to the parties from a brief delay,” Chutkan, an Obama appointee to the US District Court for the District of Columbia, said in her minute order.
