A group of firefighters in Northern Virginia claim that the City of Alexandria violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage law by misclassifying them as exempt from overtime pay, according to a lawsuit recently filed in federal court.
The lawsuit was brought by Anthony Kelly and nine other individuals employed as either Operational or Administrative Battalion Chiefs for the Alexandria Fire Department.
“Alexandria has received” the complaint and “it is being reviewed,” spokeswoman Kelly Gilfillen told Bloomberg Law on Friday. “The City will respond with the appropriate actions based upon the findings of the review,” she said.
